(I keep forgetting to write this page, so this is a reminder to myself to finish it at some point. Not done yet.) Teams is a communication platform owned by Microsoft, and has been the official social hub for NSA students since the transition from FirstClass in 2019. There have been major two updates to teams since then, and various minor improvements/changes. == Layout == Teams features private dms, private group chats, and public channels. The channels are set up in different "Buildings" (e.g. High School building, Middle School Building, and Elementary School building, in which are the Courtyard, Auditorium, Spiritual Life, etc.) and "Groups" (e.g. Music Club, Creative Writing Club, Book Club, etc, which all have their own sub-channels.) See the example below: Only channel administrators can add or remove users, delete others' posts/comments, add or remove channels, etc. NSA faculty are these admins for the HS and MS buildings, and club leaders are admins along with faculty for the various clubs. Direct messages (DMs) and group chats (GCs) operate a little bit differently. Any student can (as of 2025) message any other student, regardless of grade. Simply type their name into the search bar, and select the message icon. There is no "block" feature (that I know of.) Group chats can be created by anyone, and anyone can be added by those already in the group chat. To start a group chat, you have to add at least two other people (I think,) but group chats can still exist even if everyone but one person leaves. In the 2023 and 2024 school years, there were policies implemented disallowing the addition of non-consenting persons to group chats, but there is no mechanism in Teams to enforce the policy. So, you're supposed to ask someone before you add them to a group chat, but that rule is often broken. There are no GC admins, so any member can kick any other member. There is no such thing as permanent banning (unless done by a faculty member,) so there have at times been ugly kicking wars where a small group of people attempts to remove all other members from the chat. The largest group chats have at times neared 100 members, though I'm not sure if any have passed that number. The Quotes Chat has had upwards of 90 members at times, and I've heard that the HFC has boasted nearly that many as well. == Main Channels == These are the channels in the HS Building, as of May 2025. (please add more info beneath each sub-heading if you have time) === The Courtyard === The Courtyard is the most active/popular channel on Teams. (add more info) === General === === Auditorium === === Hi, my name is === === Spiritual Life === === The Flagpole === === Birthday Hall === === University and Life Readiness === === Bye! I will miss you! === === Legends and Lore === === Club Connection === === NSA Connects === === Navi Around the World === === Help and Study Hall === == History == === Old Teams === Old Teams was in use from 2019 to the spring of 2022. During the summer, it was shut down and replaced with new Teams. The main differences were the look (see the screenshot below,) and the layout of channels. In old teams, there was a building for all students, HS and MS combined, and then there were teams for each grade. The building for all students had a main channel as well as others, such as HMTS. (RIP) Most of the activity happened either in the general channel of the combined building or the general channels of the grade teams. For example, THE RACE TO 10k happened in the 9th grade team, general channel. === New Teams === The new Teams was a change in a few different ways. First of all, it removed the mixed HS/MS/ES teams and channels. Now, the only place these two groups can interact are in special teams, such as the temporary team created every year for SEE, and in GCs. Secondly, it brought with it a new look. Emojis were now animated, and corners more rounded. Some liked the change, some didn't. The biggest outcry was against the separation of MS, ES, and HS. (See A New Era of Teams) === (New) New Teams? === (The app update that everyone hates) This wasn't a revamping of the teams format or layout, but just a Microsoft update to the teams app. I honestly don't really remember what changed, or when exactly it happened, but it made everything a lot more clunky and hard to navigate. Pretty much everyone hated it. It did eventually fix some bugs, though, like the crashes that would happen when getting a notification for the counting thread.
