<poem style="border: 2px solid #113e60; background-color: #cee5f6; padding: .5em;">
Four Horsemen of debate
Disputation is an easy game
Opposition decides it’s fate;
Trying these four is a big mistake.

Spencer,
The first horseman
And Debate’s Grim Reaper.
His posts are honest
And don’t crack under pressure.
If you don’t have a plan,
To go up against,
Well, the easy defeat would be his pleasure.

Joshua,
He’s the second horseman;
And the team’s ferry
How eloquent is he?
The answer is very.
Resident Mandalorian
And NSA’s Historian
But don’t mess with him,
Or things will turn quite scary.

Samuel Stevens
The third horseman
Easy to defeat? Nope, not even.
Dealer of Death and as Samuel said,
“Killing your opponents makes it easy.”

Ethan Guynn
The last, the harbinger, and most well-read
Presenting a case, he is most adept
Don’t try to beat this one,
You can try, but you can’t
Just ask the guy questions
And learn from him instead.

Backed with sources,
Armed with words,
The next defeat
Just might be yours.

= The Spoon =
Hi there! My name is Lydia Roseboom and with me today live in the studio is Josie Good. Welcome to "The Spoon."
----Josie, how are you on this fine day?

'''I am doing fine (on this night actually) xD. How are you doing?'''

I am doing great Josie. Now, the word on the street is that you have a question for me.

'''Where did the name for "The Spoon" article originate, Lydia?'''

Back in the old times, when this article was still in its planning stages, I wondered to myself what I should call an article all about NSA student news and gossip. I concluded that "The Scoop" would be the best title. However, after further research, I saw that a couple years ago Mikayla Pastrano had a Navigator article by that very same name. Since I did not want to seem like a copycat, I thought about it once more; with the help of my fellow classmates, I came to the conclusion that either "The Spork" or "The Spoon" would be the best title for the article. Upon further debate, my class firmly decided that "The Spoon" was the best title. Make sense?

'''Yes, indeed.'''

Well, Josie, thank you for starring on the show. To all our watchers, thanks for tuning in! See you next time!

<nowiki>*</nowiki>switches off the expensive TV camera and makes sure to turn off the audio* Well, Josie, I fooled the readers this time. They won't be able to see OR hear this part. Since you starred on the show, Josie, you get to meet Spoony.

'''Who is Spoony?'''

The Spoon's fabulous mascot. *turns head to the back* Spoony! Come and meet our guest. *clattering sound is heard, and a huge 6-foot spoon comes bounding out* Now shake hands with Josie, Spoony! *long fingers protruding from Spoony's middle reach forward*

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Static* This show is no longer playing in your district. If you have any questions or concerns please contact L-Y-D-I-A R-O-S-E-B-O-O-M. Once again, that is L-Y-D-I-A R-O-S-E-B-O-O-M
=== Monthly Happenings ===
- Caleb Muhling and Carolyn Sie are currently killing everyone big time in the Bulletin Board with a lead of six points. Come on guys! Take them down!! Submit your best meme today at BB Submissions.

- Tirzah Hopkins has just published her newest book on Amazon called The Last of Men. This is her fifth book to have been published. We have a future famous author in our midst!

- Ryan Woodall got poisoned last month by bougainvillea. He claims that this is an exotic plant with thorns. However, there is a theory going around that bougainvillea is actually a nickname for the exotic lasagna served on Wednesday by the school cafeteria. Perhaps, Ryan, being a NSA school patriot, does not want to shed light on the scandal...

- The annual Writing Contest results came at out in this last month. Myah Gebhard won first, Brooke Foster won second, and Brianna Harpel won third place. Send them an email of congratulations!

- The annual Art Contest results also came out. Kaitlyn Sundermeyer won first, Regan Sheddan won second, and Kimberly Kinsey won third.

(Isn't it odd that no boys won either the Writing Contest or the Art Contest? I see a conspiracy forming against the male population of NSA!)

- Sailor White and Ethan Guynn decided to play a prank on the 10th grade and acted like girls for an entire Skype call. Sadly, no one fell for it.

- This was a very slow month. The fabulous reporter for "The Spoon" was not able to dig up much juicy news. That in itself is juicy news, as Spoony loves fruit and had a breakdown at the lack of it. If you would like to donate some fruit to Spoony please contact '''L-Y-D-I-A R-O-S-E-B-O-O-M'''. Once again, that's '''L-Y-D-I-A R-O-S-E-B-O-O-M.'''

This time, it was the princess' turn to rescue her dragon.

=== Introducing Your Protagonist ===
What’s wrong with this picture?

''‘I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, find my big green eyes crusted with sleep. I brush my beautiful brown hair and check my flawless skin for pimples, but of course I don’t have any, so I don’t need to put on any makeup. Then I walk over to my closet and put on my school uniform shirt and skirt, check my reflection one more time. Then I head down stairs for a delicious, filling breakfast.’''

Obviously that paragraph is insipid to the point of hyperbolic, but it’s not like writing like this doesn’t exist. Remember learning the concept of “show, not tell” back in elementary school?

Yes, it’s still (and always) super relevant. Breaking out of the rut of the easier opposite, “tell, not show” is difficult, especially when you feel that you have so much information about a character that you feel you NEED to get to the reader, or they won’t have the image of the character that you want them to have.

Let’s start with the harsh reality: your readers are definitely not going to have the image you want them to have, so don’t worry about it.

And anyway, describing your character down to the most minute detail isn’t going to draw your readers to your character. They want to see their motivations, their emotions, their actions. They want to see what makes them ache.

If you’re writing a full-length novel, you have all the time in the world to show a full picture of your protagonist, antagonist, or anyone else in your cast of characters.

Don’t give your readers everything at once, and don’t give them features, give them emotions.

===== 1. Ease Into It, And Always Start With What’s Important =====
When I was in college and first started talking about my writing with my friends, one friend—who I’ve known since pre-school—asked me to do two things for her.

Specifically, she asked me not to do two things.

One: No sappy chapter titles.

Two: Don’t introduce your characters by having them stand in front of a mirror and describe every feature they see (like that first example).

They were pretty fair requests, considering the conversation happened around 2008 or 2009, and you don’t have to Google for too long to figure out which YA series was popular around that time.

Give the reader the most important information about the character first: name, gender, age, and how they relate to the world you’ve developed.

Also, don’t wait three chapters to introduce the protagonist. Introduce them as quickly as possible. Then you give your readers the rest in little pieces, bite by bite, as the novel progresses.

But TFR, what if my character has significant features that will impact them thought the story? Please, give them that.

Does your character have a hair color outside the norm (i.e. fake red, blue, rainbow, etc.)? Give us that. Does your character have an obvious chase of heterochromia (aka when one eye color is different from the other? Give us that, but don’t be too blatant about it (tip: have it come up in conversation, or have someone else bring it up by teasing the protagonist, or asking how that’s physically possible). Does your character have some sort of physical ailment or missing limb, well, then your readers are going to need to know that.

But your whole vision of the character doesn’t matter. What you see when you think of your character isn’t what your readers are going to see, and that’s okay. Your readers are here for the story, not the description of the number of freckles he or she has on her cheeks, or the exact shape of their eyes.

===== 2. Instead of Showing What They Look Like, Make Us Want To Root For Your Character =====
It doesn’t matter whether you want your readers to see your protagonist succeed or see them fail, you want them for or against your character, period. You want that more than you want your readers to know what they look like.

You want your readers to want to keep following your character on their adventures, want them to keep turning the page.

Turn all the pages.

Show your readers your character in action. How do they react after witnessing a bad car accident? How do they react to being in a bad car accident? How do they react to good news? How do they react to being hit on at a pair by someone remotely not their type?

Give them the elements of your character and send your readers on the adventure with them. Remember that paragraph of “tell” from the beginning of the post? Go back and take another read. I’ll wait.

Are you cringing yet?

Instead of doing that, show the readers how your character feels about having to get up in the morning. Are they the type who’s excited for school, to see all their friends and sit in the front row of each of their classes? Or do they not want to go to school because they’re constantly being bullied by the “it clique” and therefore drag out the process of getting ready for as long as possible?

Or show us a little about your protagonist’s home life. Does your character have to pick their way through a messy room to get to their uniform, or is it pristine and the clothes are hanging in the closet organized by color? Does their uniform fit, or is the skirt or pants too tight in the waist because they can’t afford clothes that fit better.

Show a neat appearance, or show them being okay with leaving the house unkempt because they’re running late.

Show us, don’t tell us.

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule (like all the ones I break in the #WhoIsTalyaNightingale manuscript). In writing, all rules should be broken. What’s important is that you break these rules the right away.

And then go back and edit when you’re done.

Have I mentioned the importance of editing yet in this post?

No?

Well, editing is super crucial.

Or rather, this month's poem. Brianna Harpel, our writer over there at Caught in the Glow, is a lovely poet who never fails to amaze me with her poetry. Check out her poetry in The Creative Writers of NSA > Brianna > Poems!
===== Failure's Blessing =====
by Brianna Harpel

<poem style="border: 2px solid #113e60; background-color: #cee5f6; padding: .5em;">
Failure is a blessing

Though we see it as a drudge

Without it… well

We wouldn’t learn much

Failure shows us where we fall

It shows us how to grow

And shows us how to know

When we need to let go.

To release our pride

To release the guise

To release our control
To release the lies.

It forces us to see
Our futality
And look up for a moment
So we can get up.

Failure shows us who we need
It shows us where to go
And shows us what we know
And who holds the road

The Father, the Maker
The world's Only Light
The All Knowing Author
The One who is always right.

It causes us to observe
Our weakness
And know He is there
So we can get up.

Failure is a blessing
And it can drag us down
If we let it close us in
And pull us to the ground.
But it doesn’t have to be
Cause its the blessing in disguise
Allowing us to know we need the King
Showing us how to fall on our knees.
</poem>

That's all for this month! Hope you enjoyed reading, and don't forget to leave feedback. =D

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight U_U
'''Prompt 3:'''

"I told you already, we're never going back. Ever."

'''Prompt 4:'''

"Why is there a magic portal in the bathtub?!"

'''Prompt 5:'''

"You're like a blister; you only turn up when the hard work is done."

'''Prompt 6:'''

'''Prompt 7:'''

They burnt their blood-stained clothing in the small forest just behind the school.

'''Prompt 8:'''

Everything good comes with a price tag. The price of his second chance was his eyesight.

'''Prompt 9:'''

You appear in an infinite white room with nothing but yourself and a piece of paper which reads, "You have been banned from existence."

'''Prompt 10:'''

One day in class, you decide to scream something in your head to catch mind readers. As you do, you see your crush flinch.
----This month's writing tips is on a slightly different topic. Instead of focusing on writing itself, I've decided to focus on being in a '''writing community'''. Here's a snippet from the blog post I'm extracting this from. Enjoy reading!

=== Why You Need A Writing Community (And How To Find One!) ===
FEEDBACK

I think the word feedback scares people. It scares us…. Like, you know, in elementary school when the teacher would pass out the classes’ graded creative writing papers, and yours had red marks all over it and a barely passable grade that sent your GPA waaay down?

If you’ve got a group of people who really want to invest in you and your writing, you will never go through that again. '''They will want to help you, not give you a grade to despair over.''' Their goal should be to show you how to write better.

ADVICE

I came up with a quote for this one. Print it out. Tape it to your wall. It will be useful in life. Are you ready?

Good advice is better than stupid advice. -Abby Franklin, 2018

I’m pure genius.

To be a little more precise, advice is better coming from someone who knows what they’re doing than someone speculating from the outside.

Take, for instance, making a blog for the first time. Someone with no experience could tell you to go ahead and make a blog at the beginning of your writing career, while an experienced blogger may know that you should probably do XYZ before blogging for the first time.

FRIENDSHIP

When you have a friend who likes baseball, you might play or go to a game with them, right? If you agree, congrats! You found out why writing friends are important! Have some cake!

Writing friends are arguably the best friends ever, because they’re crazy weird and tend to be comical people because of it. But the best thing about them is that, if you’re a writer too, '''they’ll always be there to keep you going'''. And they are very persistent & passionate about it.

Plus, If you need extra ideas, a good name for a villain, or a good cry over a character’s death, they’re only a phone call or text away.

Yeah, writers are pretty awesome.

ENCOURAGEMENT

We all get into those awful writing slumps sometimes. You guys know those days when you can’t seem to get the plot together or can’t write another word, and those dry seasons where nothing good seems to be happening.

One of the best parts of having writers around you is that they understand. They get it. Maybe they have tips on how to help, and maybe they don’t. But a good writer will always encourage you to keep going in your journey.
----We have a super cool, exciting story by Jaylene for this month! Check out her Creative Writing folder in Creative Writing > The Creative Writers of NSA > Jaylene > Fire and Ice for more!

=== Fire and Ice: Part One ===
“Small fire! I said to set a small fire!! This is not small!!!” Helplessly, I stared at the blazing inferno raging around me. Thick smoke filled my nostrils, and I coughed, glaring harshly at the apologetic boy in front of me.

“This is all your fault! What part of ‘small’ do you not understand, you idiot!”

“I’m sorry-“ he tried.

I interrupted, “This is your first task, and you’ve already proven to be a miserable wreck! Tell me, what do I do with you?!”

He hung his head, looking dejected, and for a split second a small part of me wanted to pat him on the back and tell him everything would be okay, but I maintained my chilly facade. I had had it harder during my own initiation. If he wanted to join the league, he must pass the pre-training.

“I can’t believe they assigned me to train him,” I muttered under my breath. Extending my palm, I aimed a perfect spray of ice at the roaring flames. Immediately, they disappeared with a hiss, and I closed my palm, turning to frown at my protégé.

He winced.

I smiled, satisfied with his reaction. “Now,” I said firmly, if you want to get better at this, you need to practice. You want to join the league, don’t you?”

“Yes,” he gulped, his eyes wide. I took note that they were the color of pure honey. Suddenly disgusted with him, I began stalking back and forth.

“You were selected from your clan – only you! And here you are, making horrible use of your gift. This is only the pre-training! What will you do when – IF – you ever get to the real thing?”

My voice had risen, and I struggled to keep it down, noting the way his hands were smoldering with a fiery glow.

Hmmm. Maybe that was the way to get this to work. Furiously, I began to pace faster.

“You soggy biscuit!” I barked. “Are you useless?! You were chosen for a reason, but I’m starting to doubt you! Show me what you can do, or you’re done here!”

His eyes began to shimmer with burnt orange sparks, and he clenched his flickering fists.

“SHOW ME!” I roared. That was all it took. With a terrifying cry, the boy opened his palms to the sky. Perfectly sized flames sparked to life in his hands, and he forgot his anger, gaping in awe. I congratulated myself on our success.

“Very good,” I approved. “You can stop now.” When he didn’t, I impatiently laid my palms on his, expecting my ice crystals to extinguish the heat right away. Instead, the blazes grew stronger and I gasped, feeling warmth for the first time in my life. It was... strangely addicting. I was paralyzed by the brand new sensation. The frost in my hands were melting into warm water, but I scarcely noticed it.

We stared at each other; the two of us in harmony for a few seconds that seemed infinite. What was this unfamiliar warmth in my hands and my bones? But before I could say anything, the heat suddenly dissipated and my palms were freezing cold again. I stepped back, feeling the frostiness return to my eyes.

“That is all for today.”

“Wait.” He placed a hand on my arm, and I froze, aware of the tantalizing warmth that beckoned to me. “I don’t even know your name.” Stiffening, I shook his hand off and faced him.

“That is the point of it all,” I replied, my voice hard.

“Point of what?” he asked desperately, but I flung a non-deadly icicle at his leg and disappeared into the fog as I had been trained to. He asked too many questions. I’d have to be careful.

That's all for this month! Hope you enjoyed reading, and don't forget to leave feedback. =D

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight U_U

"If writing is easy, you're doing it wrong." -Bryan Hutchinson

'''Prompt 1:'''

"Hi, I'd like to order a hamburger." "What's a hamburger?"

'''Prompt 2:'''

"Did you open the package?" "

Yes."

"That was your first mistake."

'''Prompt 3:'''

"Dude, your eyes are glowing."

'''Prompt 4:'''

I thought I could survive.

I didn't. I died.

'''Prompt 5:'''

She clutched her wings tighter. "Don't come near me."

'''Prompt 6:'''

'''Prompt 7:'''

It's finally summer. You finally get the chance to hit the beach, but it's completely deserted.

'''Prompt 8:'''

It's the year 2270. Technology has evolved. The world is living in absolute peace. The whole world of robots, that is. All of humanity has been erased. You're the only human left standing, and you're struggling to stay hidden and survive.

'''Prompt 9:'''

You've just entered the elevator, alone with one man and a young girl. Suddenly, the man hits the emergency stop button and pulls out a gun.

'''Prompt 10:'''

It's your friend's sweet 16th birthday! You try to call your friend to tell her happy birthday, but she doesn't pick up. You message her, only to see that her name has been replaced with a "16."
----

=== World Building ===
It should go without saying that world building is just as important as naming your protagonist (and everyone else in the novel).

While the thought of world building might actually be more overwhelming than figuring out someone’s name, it doesn’t have to be.

The easiest way to go about it?

Take it slow.

Going into your plot, even before you write your first page, you don’t have to have every inch of your town/city/isolated wasteland/intergalactic cruise ship/alien rainforest already planned out. It’s great if you do, but it doesn’t have to be your first priority.

The way to start is to just write.

When I started the #WhoIsTalyaNightingale novel, I had a handful of specific locations figured out, but as I wrote the story, more and more of the town came to me. In fact, there is one specific location—someone’s house—that I never imagined including before I wrote the scene and introduced it.

But now that it exists, it’s going to have a much larger role in the overall series than I originally thought.

Storyline evolution is awesome.

1. Start With The General, Narrow Down To The Specific

Once you figure out what type of story you’re writing—fantasy, historical, steampunk, modern, etc.—and vaguely what it’s about, then you should try to figure out the general area it takes place in before your narrow it down.

Writing a story located somewhere with a beach is going to have a different feel from one that takes place in the middle of a desert, or in the forest, or in the arctic, and so on.

And speaking of these locations, you should also figure out things like the time of year and the weather, all of which impact your characters.

For example, if your character is a city girl who graduates from college in Arizona and cuts her hair to a cute, short bob, she’s not going to have the same problems with her hair that she will when she moves to Birmingham, Alabama, in August and is faced with moving into her apartment when it’s 90-degrees out with 90-percent humidity. She’s going to struggle a lot with managing her hair until it grows out long enough to pull into a ponytail.

(Why yes, that was me. Feel free to drop a line in the comments if you need any advice on handling hair issues in humidity).

Additionally, figuring out the time of year is crucial too. If your story takes place in New Haven, Connecticut, in the dead of winter, then your character is going to dress in layers and have to trudge through snow in order to get to work every day, whereas your character who is on vacation on Hawaii’s Big Island is going to be in a bathing suit and sandals for most of the novel.

If they’re on the west side of the island, that is. If they’re in Hilo, all weather bets are off.

2. Don’t Forget To Establish The Time Of Day In Your Environment

I’m not saying that you have to establish the time of day in every single scene, but a scene with two cops in the midst of a midnight stakeout is going to have a different look and feel than one with a coed having an early-morning study session at the campus library, or even one with the leaders of a pair of warring factions meeting at dusk with their armies at their backs.

Additionally elements like pollution will impact your setting too. If you’re writing about the sunrise in Beijing, thanks to the heavy blanket of smog throttling the city, the sunrise is going to look very different from the sunrise in an arid desert miles away from the nearest town.

A river full of toxic sludge is going to look and smell different from the untouched waters deep in the rainforest, and an apartment by the ocean in Miami is going to have a different feel from one in Portland.

3. The Passage Of Time Is Important Too

Going into it, you’re probably going to know if your novel spans months at a time, a season, or just a day, and the speed of time is something you need to convey as the story progresses.

If you’re writing something that takes place over a short span like a day or a week, then you’re going to need to break down each and every second, fill in as much story that you can within those limitations. (But if your character or characters are going to travel some distance as part of that sprint, then you can skip from Point A to Point B without stressing over what songs they’re going to add to their Spotify playlist.)

Conversely, if you’re writing something that takes place over months or years, then we don’t need a hundred repetitions of your protagonist’s morning coffee routine. If it’s not relevant to the plot, then you can move right along without worrying that your readers are going to miss something.

4. Man-Made Geography Is Important Too

Buildings, houses, coffee shops, malls, schools, whatever you’re imaging, are all going to look different, depending on where you are.

You’re not going to see those classic brick row-houses that are found in Baltimore in the middle of Los Angeles, nor are you going to see a massive mountain cabin the middle of metro Phoenix.

Once you figure out where and when your story takes place, do some Googling or Pinterest searching to find inspiration for what your houses, shops, schools, or whatever else is important to your setting are going to look like.

The beach houses and tourist-clogged streets of Santa Barbara are going to have a different look and architectural feel than a manor somewhere in Connecticut or Massachusetts.

5. Populations Are Important Too

Speaking of tourists, if you’re writing a story that takes place in the middle of a metropolis like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Hong Kong, or Tokyo, then there is a 100-percent chance that your characters are going to bump into someone the second they set foot on the street.

It’s bustling, it’s active, and it’s always loud.

But if you’re writing a story that takes place in a retirement community, then all is going to be dead silent by 9 p.m.

So you need to make sure that your setting is consistent in all ways. That’s not to say that you need to specifically state that Name-Of-Your-Town has a setting of Insert-Number-Here, but make sure to talk about it if it’s relevant. Is it strange that the local park is empty at four in the afternoon? Might be something. Or is it important to note how crowded it is on Saturday when your character goes grocery shopping at Whole Paycheck Foods?

Overall, just take your time, be consistent, and go back and change what needs to be changed when you edit the piece.

That’s why editing is awesome.
=== Deadly Mercury ===
by Jie Ling

Keeping her head down low, she shuffled her way down the bustling corridors of Ciencia Highschool. Her silver blonde strands hung around her slender face, shielding her from further view. A group of rambunctious, year eight boys rushed past causing the girl to flinch and seek to disappear into the wall of plaster.

Storm grey eyes darted around, trying to find an escape route. There! Room 2-04. Slipping into the presently silent classroom, she gently set her bag onto an empty desk and then slid onto the chair. She heaved a great sigh of relief. Peace, quiet and serenity at last.

Her relaxation was suddenly interrupted by the door slamming open to welcome the vicious onslaught of students arriving, just in time for class. The first few kids briefly paused upon seeing the lone teenage girl sitting at the desk. They then continued, the once peace filled space bustling with noise and happy chatter.

Walking in amidst the clamour, a tall, stick-thin woman rapped the front desk with a wooden ruler.

“Everyone, quiet please. Before I continue teaching about the elements of science, I would like to introduce a new person to our class. Please welcome Mercury Islabelle Levesque to class 2-04. I am Miss Norton, your teacher. Mercury, could you please stand up and say hello to everyone?”

Mercury blinked, struck dumb with terror. She hated being the center of attention.

“Um,” standing up hesitantly, she whispered, “hello everyone.”

Her fellow classmates loudly shouted out a welcome to her, causing her to blush helplessly. Quickly sitting back down onto her seat, she returned her focus to Miss Norton who had turned to the large black chalkboard and was writing down the element they would be studying today. She blinked in surprise as Miss Norton wrote down “Mercury”.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Walking silently home, Merc contemplated the events of the day. She could not believe that on her first day in the new school she had studied on her namesake, mercury. Suddenly, up ahead she heard a soft cry of pain. “Please stop! Please!”
----That's all for this month! Hope you enjoyed reading, and don't forget to leave feedback. =D

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight U_U

So, a little bit about this wiki. There has always been sOME sort of NSA wiki, but for a long time they were mostly just really long google docs. There were also tons of copies of the "wiki," sometimes with conflicting information. I have included links to all of the sources I could find below - these are where the majority of the information on this wiki came from. But anywho, in the spring of 2023 (I think it was,) I (Owen Behrens) decided to try to consolidate the info onto one website. I was successful, and that site was used for quite a while. However, it had quite a few issues. It ran on the Nextcloud "Collectives" app, which isn't really meant for such high traffic. It has no moderation features, so I locked it down so I was the only one who could edit it. Also, all the links to pages were ridiculously long and suspicious-looking. So, I decided to transfer the information to a proper wiki site, and the obvious choice was MediaWiki It's actually the same software on which Wikipedia runs! It's been quite stable since, and I'm happy with it. People seem to like it in general, and it's been working well. Late in 2024, the service I used for domain nsa.awiki.org decided to no longer offer support. So, since then [[Riley Nielsen]] has been paying for the domain nsa-wiki.org. He plans to keep doing so indefinitely (thanks, Riley!) I plan to keep maintaining the wiki after I graduate in 2025, although I'll have to add at least one current NSAer as an admin. If you want to talk more about the history of the wiki, or how it works on the backend, feel free to message me; I'd love to talk about it!

Currently, there are four moderators (people who can approve edits.) They are Owen Behrens, Mark Huang, Jacob Grady, and Noah Pendley.
Mark has taken over a lot of the moderation and editing, and has all the source documents and other NSA-related files I've collected over time.
== What's the difference between a user page and a page about a person? ==
This question hasn't ever actually been asked, but I figured I would answer it anyway. When you create an account on the wiki, a user page associated with your username can also be created. (You can access this by clicking on your username in the topmost right section of the website.) Pages can also be created with a name as a title, and put in the People category.

So, here's the difference between these two page types. A user page (aka, the page with your username as the title, automatically created with your account) can have whatever you want on it. You can put pretty much anything on your own user page - stuff about you, whether it relates to NSA or not. It's highly discouraged to edit other users' user pages, and there's almost no reason to ever do so. However, a pages about people (aka, the person's name as the title, and in the People category) are treated much differently. These pages should only have information about the person that concerns something at NSA, and they should be written to the standard of other wiki pages. For example, if you had a role in a group chat, you could say so, and link to that page. Also, since these pages are treated like any other wiki pages, it's normal for other users to edit them.

So, in summary, a user page is like a profile. You can put basically anything you want there. However, a page about a person at NSA is an informational article, and will be written as such.

''More questions will be added as I think of them. If you have an idea of something you think should be here, please post about it in this page's discussion.''

Hey guys! Welcome to "Got Questions?", the Spiritual Life Article for this year. I am Hudson Roseboom, the Spiritual Life Leader. In this article I will answer any of your questions about the Bible, God, or anything in the Christian faith.

====== What is the Unforgivable Sin? ======

''"Blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven."''

It's one of Jesus's most enigmatic, controversial, and haunting statements. In the last two millennia, many a tortured soul have wrestled over this warning. Have I committed "the unforgivable sin"? When I addressed my angry profanity to God, when I spoke rebelliously against him, did I commit unforgivable blasphemy? Or, perhaps more often, especially in today's epidemic of Internet porn, "Could I really be saved if I keep returning to the same sin I have vowed so many times never to return to again?"

Despite the enigma and controversy, we do have a simple pathway to clarity. Jesus's "blasphemy against the Spirit" statement only appears in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). If we get a concrete sense of what he did (and didn't) mean there, then we're positioned to answer what such "unforgivable sin" might (and might not) mean for us today.

====== What Jesus Actually Said ======

Jesus hadn't been teaching in public long when his hearers began comparing him to their teachers, called "the scribes," part of the conservative Jewish group known as the Pharisees. The growing crowds "were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes" (Mark 1:22). The scribes heard the comparison and felt the tension, and soon escalated it (Mark 2:6, 16), as these Bible teachers of the day, with their many added traditions, quickly grew in their envy, and then hatred, for Jesus. The threat is so great these conservatives even are willing to cross the aisle to conspire with their liberal rivals, the Herodians (Mark 3:6).

The showdown comes in Mark 3:22–30 (Matthew 12:22–32). Scribes have descended from Jerusalem to set straight the poor, deceived people of backwater Galilee. "He is possessed by Beelzebul," they say. "By the prince of demons he casts out the demons" (Mark 3:22).

Jesus calmly answers their lie with basic logic (verses 23–26) and turns it to make a statement about his lordship (verse 27). Then he warns these liars, who know better deep down, of the spiritual danger they're in.

"Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" — for they were saying, 'He has an unclean spirit.'" (Mark 3:28–30)

It's one thing to suppose that Jesus is out of his mind (his family fears as much at this early stage, Mark 3:21), but it's another thing to attribute the work of God's Spirit to the devil — to observe the power of God unfolding in and through this man Jesus, be haunted by it in a callous heart, and turn to delude others by ascribing the Spirit's work to Satan. This evidences such a profound hardness of heart in these scribes that they should fear they are on the brink of eternal ruin — if it's not already too late. Jesus does not necessarily declare that the scribes are already condemned, but he warns them gravely of their precarious position.

====== Who Did the Scribes Blaspheme? ======

Before we ask about our sin today, let's gather the pieces in the Gospels. The teachers of God's covenant people, here at this crucial and unique point in redemptive history, have God himself among them. God's long-anticipated kingdom is dawning. "If it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you" (Matthew 12:28). The very day that their stories and prophets and Scriptures have prepared them for is being unveiled before them, and in their hard and impenitent hearts, they are rejecting it.

And not only are they cold toward how God is doing it, and murmuring about it to each other, but as teachers of God's people, they now are speaking up to draw others away from the truth. And they do so by declaring that the power at work in Jesus, manifestly from God, is the power of Satan. Here Jesus warns them, "Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" (Mark 3:29). Why so?

Matthew adds a detail we don't have in Mark. "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come" (Matthew 12:32). Attacking Jesus is one thing. He refers to himself as "the Son of Man" — God himself among his people, but not yet fully revealed in his death and resurrection. Attack this enigmatic Son of Man, and the Spirit can overcome that. But it's another thing to see what God is doing and turn to attack his Spirit. Who is left to help these scribes if they're settling in against the Spirit of God? Insult, dishonor, and make enemies with the Spirit, and who is left to bring you back?

The reason these scribes are dangerously close to being guilty of "eternal sin" is because they are evidencing such a settled hardness of heart — not just against this mysterious "Son of Man," but now explicitly against the Spirit — that their hearts may no longer be capable of repentance. It's not that they may be genuinely repentant but given the stiff arm, but that they will "never have forgiveness" because they will never meet the simple, invaluable, softhearted condition for it: repentance.

====== Is Anyone Unforgivable Today? ======

When Jesus addresses the scribes in his day, it is on the brink of a seismic redemptive-historical change that comes with his life and ministry. So in what sense might his warning to the scribes about "blasphemy against the Spirit" be uniquely for Jesus's day, on the cusp of the old covenant being fulfilled and a new covenant being inaugurated? Should these words fall in the same way on our ears twenty centuries later?

When we turn forward in the story to Acts and the Epistles, we don't find anything called "blasphemy against the Spirit." Which signals our need for exercising care in applying this precise term today. However, we do find a concept similar to "unforgivable sin," even if the terms are not exactly the same. The essence of Jesus's warning to the scribes in his day lands on us in some form, even if not in the precise way it did originally for the scribes.

Ephesians 4:30 speaks of "grieving the Holy Spirit," but this is not the same as Jesus's warning to the scribes. Those who "grieve" the Spirit are reminded that by him they are "sealed for the day of redemption." However, Hebrews 10:29 speaks of "outraging the Spirit of grace," and Hebrews 12:17 warns professing Christians not to be like Esau who "found no place of repentance." Like Jesus's warning to the scribes, we are not told that Esau asked for forgiveness but was denied. Rather, he "found no place of repentance" — his heart had grown so callous, he was no longer able to genuinely repent and thus meet the condition for the free offer of forgiveness.

Throughout his letter, the author of Hebrews warns his audience of this danger. In the past, they have professed faith in Jesus and claimed to embrace him. Now, because of pressure and persecution from unbelieving Jews, they are tempted to abandon Jesus to restore their peace and comfort. They have experienced remarkable measures of grace in association with the new-covenant people of God (Hebrews 6:4–5), but now they are nearing the brink of falling away from Christ — and Hebrews warns them of the peril: having known the truth, and rejected it, are they now coming into a kind of settled hardness of heart from which they no longer will be able to repent and thus be forgiven?

For Christians today, we need not fear a specific moment of sin, but a kind of hardness of heart that would see Jesus as true and yet walk away — with a kind of hardness of heart incapable of repenting. Again, it's not that forgiveness isn't granted, but that it's not sought. The heart has become so recalcitrant, and at such odds with God's Spirit, that it's become incapable of true repentance.

====== Hope for Those Feeling "Unforgivable" ======

If you do fear you've committed some "unforgivable sin," or even that your heart has already reached such a state of hardness, God does offer you hope. If you worry about unforgivable sin, then most likely you are not there. Not yet. Hearts with settled hardness against Jesus and his Spirit don't go around worrying about it.

It's easy to get worked up over this enigmatic "unforgivable sin" in the Gospels and miss the remarkable gospel expression of Jesus's open arms that comes immediately before the warning: "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter" (Mark 3:28). All sins. Whatever blasphemies uttered. Through faith in Jesus. This is where the Gospel accounts all lead: to the cross. This Son of Man, as he progressively demonstrates in the Gospels, is God himself and Lord of the universe. And he became one of us, and died for our sins, and rose to offer full and entire forgiveness for all who repent and embrace him as Lord, Savior, and Treasure.

If your worries about "unforgivable sin" relate to a pattern of sin and unrepentance in your life, your very concerns may be God's Spirit working to keep you from continuing to harden your heart beyond his softening. Don't despair. And don't treat it lightly. As the Holy Spirit encourages his hearers on the edge of such danger, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts" (Psalm 95:7–8; Hebrews 3:7–8). You are not guaranteed tomorrow. But you do have today. It's not too late, if you still have it in you to repent.

====== More Good News ======

However, we should be careful that the enigma and controversy over "unforgivable sin" doesn't keep us from missing the main reality underneath this episode in Mark 3 and Matthew 12. Jesus's main point isn't that there is such a sin as "blasphemy against the Spirit," but that there is such a person as the Holy Spirit! How remarkable that God has not left us to ourselves in the ups and downs of this life. As he did with his own Son in his full humanity, he makes available to us supernatural power by his Spirit.

How did Jesus, as man, perform his miracles? By the power of the Spirit. "It is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons" (Matthew 12:28). When Jesus hears the scribes say, "By the prince of demons he casts out the demons," he hears an outrageous attack, not on himself, but on the Spirit. The last word in the story explains it all: "for they were saying, 'He has an unclean spirit'" (Mark 3:30).

How amazing that the same Spirit who empowered Jesus in his earthly life, and on the path to his sacrificial death, has been given to us today. We "have the Spirit" (Romans 8:9, 15, 23; 1 Corinthians 6:19). What a gift we've received (Romans 5:5; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 2 Corinthians 5:5; 1 John 3:24). How much do we underappreciated what power is available to us (and through us) by the Spirit?

Hi everyone! Welcome to another year of "Food and Nutrition!" :D

In this article, I will be interviewing another NSA student about their cooking experiences.

In addition, I will feature one recipe each month and explain how to make it.

This month's interviewee is Lydia, the 9th grade representative.

Lydia's cooking experiences began about two years ago when she decided to make macaroni and cheese in order to help her mom.

Somehow, the macaroni ended up tasting so bad that no one could eat it, including Lydia.

At a more recent date, she decided make gluten free brownies for her mom. Everything seemed to be going well.

Lydia put the brownies in the oven, set a timer, and then went to play the piano, taking the timer with her.

About two minutes before the timer was supposed to go off, Lydia went check the brownies.

As soon as she came out of the piano room, Lydia smelled smoke and knew that something was wrong. The brownies were burnt.

In fact, they were so burnt that her dad had to use a hammer and screwdriver to pound/chisel the brownies out of the pan the next day. Although her cooking career had pretty rough start, Lydia has improved and been able to make foods such as chocolate chip cookies, scones, and biscuits.

Her advice to anyone who has had similar struggles is to keep on trying because your efforts to make something delicious will eventually pay off. :)

====== Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies ======
'''Ingredients:'''

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs

2 tablespoons light corn syrup

2 tablespoons water

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups chopped semisweet chocolate

'''<br />Instructions:'''

1. Preheat oven to 375F

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth

3. Beat in the eggs one at a time

4. Stir in the corn syrup, water, and vanilla

5. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt and stir into the peanut butter mixture

6. Fold in chocolate chunks

7. Drop by 1/4 cupfuls, 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

8. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes in the preheated oven or until edges are golden.

9. Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on the cookie sheet before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

That's all for this month! If you have any recipe suggestions or would like to be interviewed in a future article, please contact me. :)

See you next month!

Voted the best family in the 2024/20245 [[End of the Year Awards|EOYA]]'s, familia potato is your favorite of the [[NSA Families|NSA families]]! The family founder is [[Esther Yang]].

A message Esther left herself on August 14, 2024 reads as follows: "Last month, in some weirdly insane and confusing way, Nathan Rexroth and I got married ._. (or mawwied, idk XD) A month later, he agreed to adopt my daughter, [[Adelyn Pendley|Adelyn]], and then we both adopted Jonathan Wu, Mark Huang, and Evan Cho. Because I'm in this weird mix up of the iNSAne family and the Haagensons fam- nathan and i decided it'd be less confusing (or at least hopefully less confusing) to create our own family tree and fammily name"

The first message sent in the familia potato chat is from Esther herself on August 8, 2024 at 4:25 AM CST. This is the message that started history: "aahem- hiiiii :D Noah, you know how i'm part of the insane and haagenson's fam? well considering how nathan and i have a family too, we were wondering if we could create a whole new family? with a new name and all? would that work family tree wise ._. (yes, i created a whole chat for this u-u)"
== The Familia Potato ==
The members in order of when they (roughly) joined the family is as follows:<br>[[Esther Yang]]<br>Noah Pendley<br>[[Nathan Rexroth]] (returned from getting milk)<br>[[Adelyn Pendley]]<br>Jonathan Wu<br>Mark Huang<br>[[Ha-earl (Evan) Cho]]<br>Faith Saltzman<br>[[Lydia Yun]]<br>Easton Shores<br>Sarah McClure<br>Sophia Moffatt<br>Porter Lewis<br>Isabelle McGreger (left the family)<br>Rebeca Fogaca<br>Annabelle Swenson<br>James Van Iderstine<br>Rebecca Davis<br>Isaiah Taylor<br>Andrew Webster<br>Alex McGreger<br>Cait Penn<br>[[Hallie Griffin]]<br>Joel Griffin<br>Ruth Lin<br>Rui Naijo

<br>The most recently updated family tree created by none other than [[Mark Huang|Mark]] shows how everyone is related:

One thing that makes the potatoes unique is that they partake in stoey time. What is stoey time? Well it was created by Sarah in attempts to spark conversation and tell each other about the interesting parts of their lives.

Infinite shenanigans occur in the potato chat. Any shenagigan that is of any importance can be found below.

Jo died from laughing on November 14, 2024 at 9:14 PM CST. Sarah wrote a magnificent poem in his honor:
<poem style="border: 2px solid #113e60; background-color: #cee5f6; padding: .5em;">
de a t h
it came so sudden
for this donut of only four
he will be missed
he was a donut to adore
and now
he is gone
because death came from the giggles
his funeral is at the crack of dawn
</poem>
On December 21, 2024 the potatoes held a family call and sang happy birthday to an unfortunate member.

Sir Edward McQuackers is a very kind duck. He often wanders around on his padded feet in the Welcome Committee building and looks for handouts. He loves [[Cookehs]], and is one of the only beings in NSA that can fully eat them.<ref>Of how he got his powers of extreme stomach digestion, read [[Sir Quackers Quackules|this]].</ref> His original owner was said to be [[Brooke Foster]], who introduced him as the Welcome Committee's Mascot around 2020. It is now believed that he is now owned by anybody who holds the position of Welcome Committee leader. He wears a top hat, and of course quacks in duckeh language. It is sometimes said that only the Welcome Committee leader can fully understand him. He has made friends with most NSAer's and creatures that inhabit the realm of NSA cyber space. He was ducknapped and incidently started the FFAE quest line, quite the accomplishment for one small duck.<ref name=":0">[[Sir Quackers Quackules]]</ref> He is friendly, kind, and helpful in his own way, but he does get peckish.
Trivia: The "Sir" in his name was because he was honorarily knighted by NaAT. He was in the running for Mascot for NSA in 2022. He has a brother named [[Sir Quackers Quackules]] (He doesn't deserve the Sir, that planitary terrorist).

NSA families may sound like a uncomfy topic, but they actually aren't. These are basically when a group of people just wanna play "house" in a way. They'll act like siblings, call each other "mom" or "daughter" etc, use it in fights, for alliances etc. It's just a fun way to interact with people.

== NSA Siblings ==
Oh, the joys of having a sibling on NSA. For those of you who do not know, NSA sibs are basically your tour guide through the school. Each newbie can request an older sib to help them figure out this crazy online world and our amazing Welcome Committee Leader will find someone who is just the right fit for the newbie in question. I had a few younger sibs when I was in the WC. In fact, Amilia Sedin-Chan was one of my younger sibs, and look how she turned out! xD

One time, I found this very intriquate, very confusing paragraph written by Danielle van den Akker. Let me see if I can find it... *digs through some dusty crates* *knocks one over* *dust goes flying everywhere* *coughHACK* *wheezes* *cough* *squeaky voice of triumph and allergies* I found it! *waves a piece of paper up in the air* *navigates back out to safety* @_@ Remind me to bring one of the mythical vacuums from the [[The Coldstone Creamery's Closet|Cold Stone]] next time, okay? Anyway... *ahem* *reads*

Okay, so Marie is my grandmother, yet somehow she is my sister too. Marie's siblings are Cece, Elyse, Robert, Nathan, John, and Kallie... which somehow makes them my great aunts and uncles... but, no, I am not any of their sisters. Kallie is also Marie's twin sister. Marie's four children are Abbie, Austin, Christe, and Charles. That makes them my aunts and uncles, yet Christe is also my sister and Austin is both my great, great grandfather and... brother... Which would make Austin Marie's dad and son... And then ther is Angie... who is apparently the Quad's Aunt because she is Cece's sister... And also there is Gayle who is Abbie's evil twin... Then Stephen fits into all our lives somehow... Then we have Andrew... who is "supposedly" related to Austin in some way... which would make him related to the rest of us... but that is unclear... Oh, I forgot, Tim is also Abbie's evil twin...Then we have Sarah who says she is my great aunt... which would make her related to someone somehow... We also have.

xD And that just about sums it up! Confused yet? No worries, we all are. But all you really need to know is that NSA Sibs are awesome, and if you want one or want to become one, just contact our WCL, Madison Stroup and she'll get you all fixed up! =D

This next subject is highly iNSAne and rather absurd, but it does happen so don't lynch the messenger, k? =D

Following the theme of romance...

Honestly, I'm not sure why this one belongs in here because there's absolutely no romance involved in NSA weddings. For some reason, some kids here get really crazy occasionally and decide to get "married" just for fun. I don't know why. And I don't know where this originated. I've been present at two "weddings:" Joel Raines and Raegan Allinder, and Birdie Koski and Shalom Cross. The first with Joel and Raegan was quite spontaneous and involved the birth of a pizza that we all later ate at the reception (strange but delicious xD). Birdie and Shalom's wedding wasn't nearly as elaborate, which also means that I don't remember it as much, but I do know that they got "divorced" later because they were "growing apart" and Birdie wanted to "marry" Matt Brungardt, and we all know that polyandry is bad U_U

Now then, I personally have never been iNSAnely married (or any other married for that matter) but I was the officiator for Joel and Raegan's. Really, it's just the normal wedding ceremony except there's no true purpose except for silliness. Honestly, this is really hard to explain without sounding completely absurd =P

Oh! I know what it could be compared to! You know that fantastic game that everyone used to play as kids: House? Oh. House was the best. You got to pretend that you were the pregnant mom, or my favorite, the crippled aunt from England that always got to fuss at everyone xDD Anyways, this is basically NSA's version of House xD

Well, that's really all I can tell you about it without going on and on and on. xDD If you have any specific questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them xDD
<nowiki>**</nowiki>Taken from February 2017's [[SpreadTheGolden|#SpreadTheGolden]] Navigator article**

Written by [[Morgan Raines]]

Another mawwige was [[Anna Barry]] and [[Samuel Hewitt]] in 2020. This was on a call with a person acting as "officiator," and of course was party-crashed. The "relationship" didn't last and they never took it seriously. However in 2024, a new thing came into play: [[ADHD Powers]]. This led to a fateful conversation between [[Jared Lemmon]], [[Elijah Smith]], and [[Porter's page|Porter Lewis]]. The conversation was a fun one: [[Gabriel Nelson|Gabe]] said [[Porter's page|Porter]] was cool. Jared asked who Porter was, and Elijah replied "Your mom." Jared said, "oh hello mother," to which Gabe replied "<small>waitthatmeansimmarriedtoporter.</small>" Elijah then made it canon with the newfound [[ADHD Powers]], and the rest is history.

The third was [[Grace Ansley]] to [[Jared Lemmon]], where Gabe took a bit of revenge, shipped them together, and then used some shoddy evidence backed by ADHD powers to marry his own son against his will to Grace.

According to the law of Porter, mawwiges that have been made with [[ADHD Powers]] are binding forever.

[[Jacob Grady]] and [[Gabriel Nelson|Gabe Nelson]] of the [[Science Guild]] said that if the participants play along for a day, the mawwiage is binding. There is no diworce unless there is a good reason, both agree to the diworce, their children and their children's children agree to the diworce, and there are third party witnesses (including someone acting as Judge with ADHD powers).<ref>This became a hotly debated topic when Jared wanted to divorce Grace. Gabe didn't want them to divorce, and tried to keep them from doing so by claiming ADHD powers. However, Jared claimed to not know about the original marriage the first day, and thus it was not binding. The current NSA marriage laws are under review in the court of Judge Jacob.</ref>

=== Clarifications: ===
* This is not husband and wife, because that's even more weird (and probably heretical), and there does need to be a limit. So, the term is "dueting" under iNSAnity, 'till 13th bridge do them part. <ref>This is the new term, as of 2024. "The original terms were hubby and wifey united in holy mawiage (like the priest in Princess Bride) 'till the 13th bridge do them part." In September 2024, a group of people decided that these terms made it seem too much like marriage, and they didn't want that, so they chose a new term.</ref>
* Don't force this on people, everyone who has done this has played along for the bit, and haven't really said, "STOP". If someone does seem to be getting emotional about this, don't do it to them, it could really hurt them. Everything in moderation, including iNSAnity.
* Keep it PG13 please, we don't want any icky and gross stuff. That stays in a real marriage okay U_U and this isn't one.
== List of Families ==

* One of the first successful ones was [[Gabriel Nelson|Gabriel]], [[Dorshea Goh|Dorshea]], Everett, and [[Micah McFarland]] and siblings, with [[Tirzah Hopkins|Tirzah]] as the mom. This family combined with [[Esther Noeth|Esther Noeth's]]. She had two sons, [[Jared Cheaz]] and [[Caleb Calhoun|Caleb Calhoun]]; and three daughters, [[Saron Mengistu]], [[Kaitlyn Stephan]], and [[Meredith Schmidt]]. [[Ruth Hopkins]] was Tirzah's sister (ofc they were.) [[Elsa Powers]] and [[Anna Barry]] were Tirzah's children. These three families formed into the same one, with Ruth Hopkins, Tirzah Hopkins, Shawn-David Logan and Esther being siblings in the same family. [[Katelynn Rogerson|Katelynn (Kate) Rogerson]] was their cousin. This formed around 2019-2020. Another family joined when [[Ruthie Overholt]], adopted a lot of children. A few of them were Dorshea, [[Fianna DePater|Fianna]], De’Arkyia, Anna Barry, and Elsa Powers. No one remembers all of Ruthie’s children. (She had even more grandchildren than she did children, too.) This semi-combined with some rugged edges with the family above to make the iNSAne family, which was very active during the 2021-2023 Dark Age. This gave Gabe Nelson a dad in Noah Howard, and created one of the first NSA couples.

* In a separate family, Kasandra (Kasie) Gillum-Carr and Gabriel (Gabe) Lam Yuen have three children: Kaitlyn Stephan (oldest), Jared Cheaz (middle), and [[Naomi Noeth]] (youngest). The family also has an uncle: [[Ryan Boren]], and an aunt: [[Saron Mengistu]] (This family is all gone).

* The most recent family is the Haagenson Family, with a tree down below (which isn't complete). Started by the Haagenson sisters (Sarah and Anna), this family included [[Cora Metzger|Cora]], [[Sarah Haagenson|Sarah H]], [[Sarah Thompson|Sarah T]], [[Gabriel Nelson|Gabe]], [[Silas Miller|Silas M]], [[Noa Noll|Noa]], [[Avi Reedy]], [[Jared Lemmon]], [[Anna Haagenson|Anna]], [[Hallie Griffin|Hallie]], Tim (who was disowned after he left teams), [[Porter Lewis]], and [[Grace Ansley]]. Hallie, Anna, and Jared make up "The Chaotic Triplets," in which Hallie is the oldest, then Jared,<ref>[[Lesser StuCo Member]]</ref> and then Anna as the baby of the three. Gabe is ADHD power mawwied to Porter, and Jared is ADHD power mawwied to Grace. Jared and Grace have two children, Esther Yang and Jenna Guyant.

* In the words of [[Esther Yang]], "Last month (around July 2024), in some weirdly insane and confusing way, [[Nathan Rexroth]] and I got married ._. (or mawwied, idk XD) A month later, he agreed to adopt my daughter, [[Adelyn Pendley|Adelyn]], and then we both adopted Jonathan Wu, Mark Huang, and Evan Cho. Because I'm in this weird mix up of the iNSAne family and the Haagensons fam- Nathan and I decided it'd be less confusing (or at least hopefully less confusing) to create our own family tree and family name" They have now split off and become "[[✨ familia potato ✨|familia potato]]".

(Because Gabe has constantly called Tirzah his mom, his side of the Haagenson family blends into the iNSAne Family and his older Family with Tirzah. This means that [[Ruthie Overholt]] is a Great Great Great Great Grandmother to [[Jenna Guyant]] [not [[Esther Yang]], as she is a jagged edge in the family, as she is already a part of the iNSAne family]).
[[File:Family tree.png|none|thumb|604x604px|''Jared, Hallie, and Anna are triplets.'']]
[[File:Haagenson Family tree v2.png|none|thumb|764x764px|Family tree that Hallie created to explain the family to a new member. It's not a full family tree, but it's more recent than the others.]]
I [[User:BookWyrm|Noah Pendley]], have kind of resigned from my position as family tree maker, but the following two images represent my work for a most accurate family tree. I am no longer working on this, as it's just too much, but if you'd like to try I'm happy to offer my best advice and knowledge on the subject ;).

((Personally I think the best way to do this would be to have an official form where family claims are filed, and then a shareable family tree that could be edited and viewed online, but I didn't find a great way to do that. Microsoft has flowchart type application, but it doesn't support enough text bubbles to actually use it for this (I tried) so... yeah... I used the "canvas" function of Obsidian, but that's not accessible by others.))[[File:Full family tree.png|none|thumb|1132x1132px|''family tree as of 7/24/23'']]
[[File:Family tree 2.jpg|none|thumb|1132x1132px|''Another, much larger family tree'']]
Bunny as a character/concept originated in the last FC War, called the Bunny Chipmunk War (for a very good reason ofc U_U) during 2017-2018. Bunny made a slight comeback in 2019-2020 with FFAE including him and Chipmunk as a side characters during its early period where it tried to follow FC NSA Lore.
In 2023, Jacob Grady tried to resurrect the trend/cult of Bunny, but this quickly petered out. Hannah Robbins tried to do the same in April of 2024.

Hello! I'm Owen, the wiki admin. Feel free to put your general comments or suggestions for the wiki here!

I also keep an NSA journal here for significant events that I was part of, although my entries are very sporadic.

__TOC__
== journal of Sir Kenobi ==
=== The war that never started ===

''aka, [[The Scattered War|2023 communist revolt]]''

8/30/23

I decided I should start a journal. After all, I aM the historian. or - I will be, as soon as Sarah Thompson initiates me. A lot has been happening, but I have not been able to document much. Loochs has demanded almost all of my attention. However... it all started (or - on the outside, it looks like it all started) with a post that Jared Lemmon made in the Courtyard on 8/14, at 8:59 am. It read:

It's almost that time of year- the time of year the Stucco emerges from their desolate caves and brings the party to this place 👀

it sparked a RP war, between many, many different sides. It was all very confusing, and as I said, Loochs demanded almost all of my attention, so I really don't know what all of the sides are. All I know, as I have said many times, is that I am only concerned with protecting StuCo. (aka, Cora, who is the current president, Silas, the 10th grade rep, and whoever else is on StuCo.) I am the personal bodyguard of two people - (not sure how that works, actually lol) those people being Hallie and Cora. Hallie is the leader of the Royalists - those who have sworn to protect StuCo. Cora is the president, so obviously I'm going to protect her. Our main opposition is the Communists - not sure what their official title is. They are led mainly by Earl, and their goal is to overthrow StuCo. They don't seem to really have a rEASON for it - they just say that they're tired of the tyrany.

(here was my response to that claim in the NSA google chat)

and what tyranny is this? is StuCo holding you down, stopping you from saying what you want?

I think not. From what I can see, you're fighting just for the fun of it - not for any real cause.it's not like you have even come to stuco with any complaints, ever - one day, you were bored, and so declare war.

StuCo is only trying to maintain its rightful position of power, eLECTED power, not power forced over the masses by a few who claim to be someone special. We stand for the people. We stand against anarchy, or worse, dictatorship. If the "communists" win, what will stop Earl from assuming the role of "leader," and thus essentially becoming a dictator?

We already have a leader - one that the people of NSA elected. They have chosen their leader. Will they not now stand behind that choice, and defend StuCo, defend themselves, and defend NSA itself from this anarchy?make your choice. I hope you choose wisely

There's also apparently a group, called the Spampire? I'm not sure what their goal is exactly - but last I knew, they say they're aligned with the Royalists.

There are tons of spies everywhere, but Hallie is working on implementing a plan to have a "Council" of only the most trusted leaders - Silas, Cora, Me, Anna, Avi, Gabe, and Jared L.

or wait - is that the inner circle group?

idek y'all - I'm just protecting Hallie and Cora and Silas.

But also - I'm soon going to be initiated into the Mages Guild. I will receive the role of Historian, as I run the wiki and devote a lot of spare time to Lore. Thus, I will automatically get the Aquamarine aura. I'm also planning on getting the Blue-Orange aura, as it seems really useful lol

Another random note - (I should organize this better later)
There was the original Royalist group, but that's dead now. Then, we started the Royalist Faction. However, there were a lot of spies in that, so another chat was formed, called the "actual royalist faction." with the hOPE to not include any of the spies. (I suspect there are some spies in it, though)

so.... for now, I'm just protecting StuCo. Hallie said she would write about what has happened so far, so if she does then that can get added to the wiki at some point.

There has been some talk about the Diamonds of NSA - someone said that they're in the hands of the Communists. I wouldn't put it past Earl to be waaaayyyy OP and somehow resurrect them. I mean, he has like - at least 8 auras lol

in fact, I don't think either side will ever win the war. Earl will never let himself die, so it will probably end with either - Earl retreating, (which I also don't think will happen) or both sides coming to a standoff.

8/31/23

Welp, Earl is getting mad, and ignoring BoP, so.... we are planning on surrendering. It's for the best. We don't want to cause any trouble, and Earl is taking things waaayyy to far.

9/1/23

OK, so... Here's what happened yesterday. So, at some point Josiah Hewitt (I think?) made a joke about hacking Earl's computer, and sending a bomb to his house. Or something like that. Earl got eXTREMELY upset, and started shouting in all caps that the police would come and arrest him for threatening Earl like that. Anyway, basically Earl was getting super mad at everyone, ignoring BoP, and.... just not treating it as a game. So, us in the Actual Royalist Faction held an unoffical meeting about what to do. We concluded that we should forefit (aka surrender) the war. Some members had concerns that this would make Earl proud, and he would boast about how he single-handedly defeated us, but we all agreed that it was more important that we didn't cause any real trouble. Earl had messaged Avi asking what we were going to do - if we would keep figting and "feel his wrath" or if we would surrender. So, she was the one who had to tell him our decision. She did so, the original thread was closed, the chats were renamed, and life went on as normal...

=== The Search for the Lost Articles ===
3/4/24

I guess I'm writing another journal entry? This doesn't deserve a wiki page, but I feel like I should write about it in case anyone else wants to go on a similar adventure.

It all started when I kept noticing notes at the bottom of some wiki pages that I was copying over. They read <nowiki>**</nowiki>Taken from September 2017's #SpreadtheGolden Navigator article** (with dates ranging from 2016 to 2017.) Obviously, if I could get copies of these articles, they would be amazing sources of information on lore. So, I went to https://www.navigator.northstar-academy.org/, the current Northstar Navigator site. However, currently this website only has articles from 2021 onward. A notice has been added on the front page, saying " DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, SOME PREVIOUS ARTICLES WRITTEN FOR THE NORTHSTAR NAVIGATOR HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN. THE STAFF IS WORKING HARD TO GET THESE ARTICLES BACK UP! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE, AND IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE ENJOY THE ARTICLES WE HAVE AVAILABLE." (this wasn't there when I initially started my search.) However, I was not deterred that easily. The first thing I did (I think? This whole thing started a long time ago) was to search the whole website for the articles. Who knew, maybe they just weren't linked to in an obvious place. In that search, I didn't find the articles, but I did find an article on the history of the Navigator. This was super interesting, but what was most helpful was a link to the old website: https://nsastuco.wixsite.com/navigator/articles. I'm not even sure why it was put there, as that site isn't up anymore. But I'm glad it was, because this meant I could turn to my old friend, the internet archive. If you don't know what the internet archive is, it's basically a website that has archived copies of anything and everything digital. That is, anything and everything that people decide is worth archiving. It's super useful for looking at older versions of websites - you can look up a website and see all the times it's been saved. However, there's a catch - someone has to save it. Websites aren't automatically saved. So, I crossed my fingers, and entered the URL. One result. It was from Jan. 18, 2023. "Surely, this must be too late?" I thought. But when I clicked on it, the website slowly loaded, and I became almost ecstatic. I soon calmed down, though, because another catch is that each page must be saved individually. So, if you save the front page of a website, only that page is saved, not all of the sub-pages, if that makes sense? Like, for this wiki - if I saved nsa.awkik.org, that would archive the front page, but nothing else. So, I started opening every visible link on that saved page, hoping that some others were archived as well. (Recently, I discovered a feature that allows you to search for all saved pages from a certain domain, but at that point I didn't know about it.) I was really only interested in the #SpreadTheGolden articles, so I clicked around until I found a #SpreadTheGolden tag. Thankfully, someone had saved that too. (Seriously, whoever saved all those pages - thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Really. I will forever be indebted to you for this wonderful act. Ok maybe that's pushing it a bit, but still thanks XD) Back to the story. On https://nsastuco.wixsite.com/navigator/articles/tags/spreadthegolden, there were five articles listed. Which is a little strange - I'm pretty sure more than that were published. But anyway. Click, click, click, click, click. Wait for the pages to load. (the internet archive isn't exactly the fastest) Three pages loaded. Two error messages. Apparently, whoever saved a bunch of pages only saved three of the #SpreadTheGolden pages. But that's three more than I could reasonably expect to find, so I was thrilled. I quickly bookmarked these pages, and read them. They were awesome! I'm pretty sure we already have most of one in parts on the wiki, but the other two were new to me. So - yeah! I found the articles! But was I done? No, sir. I knew for certain that I hadn't found aLL of the articles yet, so the hunt was still on. It was around this point that I figured out how to search for all pages under a domain, and this is how I found 68 articles from that old website. I have them all saved to my computer, waiting to be possibly put on the wiki. Sadly, what would have been the most helpful page of all was broken. It was a page with archives of previous articles from FirstClass - but the "download" area was just a gray block, with no clickable links. https://web.archive.org/web/20230118201413/https://nsastuco.wixsite.com/navigator/blank-page-1 I even delved into the website code, in case the download links were simply hidden, but came up empty-handed.

Currently, I'm working on messaging certain people who might have copies of articles. Hopefully, either I can get copies directly, or they'll be put up on the new website.

And... that's pretty much it. If you do have copies of old articles, or know someone who might, or even just have a hunch of where to find them, please contact me! At this point, I would almost be willing to swim to Hawaii to get the old articles ;-;
Hey Owen, I've noticed that some pages are now in a way "misnamed", as we have had more time after the page was created. Like "The 2021-2022 War (the ded war) (the muffin war)", is now out of date, and should be "The Scattered War". Another example is "2023 War for StuCo" which should now be "The Second Communist Revolution". I can't think of anymore right now, but I could find more. Do we wanna do a cleaning of this kind of thing to make sure things stay streamlined? [[User:GabingLord|GabingLord]] ([[User talk:GabingLord|talk]]) 03:51, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

I am putting this here because I think it's funny and should be saved, but doesn't deserve its own page, and has no place in any existing pages. The survey was taken a few months ago to settle a debate, and today I got bored of school and made this as a joke. Here ya go.
[[File:Lveq.png|none|frame]]
''By the way, the second part is wildly inaccurate, since it assumes that no two girls can have a crush on one guy at the same time, and vice versa. So, for example, Hudson Brott can only like one person, and a maximum of one person can have a crush on him. Which might be pretty close to the truth for Hudson, but not for some people. I don't have the data necessary to calculate the actual statistics, but they would definitely be lower.''

And... that's pretty much it. If you do have copies of old articles, or know someone who might, or even just have a hunch of where to find them, please contact me! At this point, I would almost be willing to swim to Hawaii to get the old articles ;-;

Here ya go.

(I keep forgetting to write this page, so this is a reminder to myself to finish it at some point. Not done yet.)

Teams is a communication platform owned by Microsoft, and has been the official social hub for NSA students since the transition from [[FirstClass]] in 2019. There have been major two updates to teams since then,<ref>as of early 2025</ref> and various minor improvements/changes.

== Layout ==
Teams features private dms, private group chats, and public channels. The channels are set up in different "Buildings" (e.g. High School building, Middle School Building, and Elementary School building, in which are the Courtyard, Auditorium, Spiritual Life, etc.) and "Groups" (e.g. Music Club, Creative Writing Club, Book Club, etc, which all have their own sub-channels.) See the example below:
[[File:Screenshot 2025-03-08 at 15-11-30 Teams and Channels 📜 Legends and Lore Microsoft Teams.png|none|thumb|574x574px|''Screenshot of Teams from early 2025'']]
Only channel administrators can add or remove users, delete others' posts/comments, add or remove channels, etc.<ref>or so you'd think 👀</ref> NSA faculty are these admins for the HS and MS buildings, and club leaders are admins along with faculty for the various clubs.<ref>Surely no one else would be accidentally added as admin to any of the teams, no, that would be a terrible oversight 😬</ref>

Direct messages (DMs)<ref>Also known as private messages or personal messages</ref> and group chats (GCs) operate a little bit differently. Any student can (as of 2025) message any other student, regardless of grade. Simply type their name into the search bar, and select the message icon. There is no "block" feature (that I know of.) Group chats can be created by anyone, and anyone can be added by those already in the group chat. To start a group chat, you have to add at least two other people (I think,) but group chats can still exist even if everyone but one person leaves. In the 2023 and 2024 school years, there were policies implemented disallowing the addition of non-consenting persons to group chats, but there is no mechanism in Teams to enforce the policy. So, you're supposed to ask someone before you add them to a group chat, but that rule is often broken. There are no GC admins, so any member can kick any other member.<ref>This was changed sometime in late 2024 or early 2025, now there is no way to kick other members. An individual must leave a GC, he or she cannot be kicked.</ref> There is no such thing as permanent banning (unless done by a faculty member,) so there have at times been ugly kicking wars where a small group of people attempts to remove all other members from the chat.

The largest group chats have at times neared 100 members, though I'm not sure if any have passed that number. [[The Quotes Chat]] has had upwards of 90 members at times, and I've heard that the [[Hudson Fan Club|HFC]] has boasted nearly that many as well.

== History ==

=== Old Teams ===
Old Teams was in use from 2019 to the spring of 2022. During the summer, it was shut down and replaced with new Teams.

The main differences were the look (see the screenshot below,) and the layout of channels. In old teams, there was a building for all students, HS and MS combined, and then there were teams for each grade. The building for all students had a main channel as well as others, such as [[Hand Me That Stick!|HMTS]]. (RIP) Most of the activity happened either in the general channel of the combined building or the general channels of the grade teams. For example, [[THE RACE TO 10k]] happened in the 9th grade team, general channel.
[[File:Old teams nutshell.png|none|thumb|575x575px|''note the reaction emoji'']]

=== New Teams ===
The new Teams was a change in a few different ways. First of all, it removed the mixed HS/MS/ES teams and channels. Now, the only place these two groups can interact are in special teams, such as the temporary team created every year for SEE, and in GCs. Secondly, it brought with it a new look. Emojis were now animated, and corners more rounded. Some liked the change, some didn't. The biggest outcry was against the separation of MS, ES, and HS. (See [[A New Era of Teams]])
[[File:Screenshot 2025-03-08 at 14-56-02 Teams and Channels Post by Unknown user Microsoft Teams.png|none|thumb|576x576px|''First post in the HS "Courtyard" Channel in new Teams'']]

=== (New) New Teams? ===
(The app update that everyone hates)

This wasn't a revamping of the teams format or layout, but just a Microsoft update to the teams app. I honestly don't really remember what changed, or when exactly it happened, but it made everything a lot more clunky and hard to navigate. Pretty much everyone hated it. It did eventually fix some bugs, though, like the crashes that would happen when getting a notification for the counting thread.<ref>See [[Lets Count]]</ref>
